Ayyappa Deeksha is a 41-day spiritual vow that devotees called Swamis undertake as preparation for a pilgrimage to the Sabarimala temple in Kerala.
It involves strict discipline, including wearing black, blue, or saffron-colored clothing; observing celibacy; eating vegetarian food; walking barefoot; and praying daily to attain purification of body and mind.
