You can defeat Nelico quite easily at level 1. It's doable with this strategy in one less turn than I show here, but I used an attack too quickly on a jelly and it cost me some damage.
It's probably possible to reduce the turn count further if you continue to abuse continuous damage after Nelico is alone, but doing that drags things out.
