In this video, we first ride from Boston, MA to Buffalo, NY, watching the train combine at Rensselaer, then we ride from Buffalo, NY to New York, NY, watching the train split at Rensselaer. Other examples of Amtrak trains making moves like this include the Texas Eagle and Sunset Limited at San Antonio, TX, and the Empire Builder at Spokane, WA.
