The Rocky Mountains run for approximately 5000 km from Canada to New Mexico, a gigantic monument of scenic beauty in North America. When in the second half of the 19th century the railways opened up the entire country, the peaks and valleys of the Rocky Mountains proved to be one of the greatest challenges for the builders. The most beautiful and spectacular routes run through this unique mountain landscape. We show movies from the Durango & Silverton railway, the Cumbres & Toltek Scenic Railway, the Grand Canyon Railway, and footage of the Canadian Railway and the „Big Boy", the largest standard steam locomotive ever built.
