Stroke Recurrence: Post-stroke depression (PSD) has been confirmed as an independent risk factor for stroke recurrence. The one-year recurrence rate is significantly higher in patients with PSD compared to non-depressed patients (28.3% vs. 18.9%), with an odds ratio of 1.64.
Cognitive Impairment: PSD is a strong predictor of dysfunction across multiple cognitive domains. The impact is most significant in visuospatial skills (OR = 6.10) and language processing (OR = 5.09).
Neuroanatomical Correlates: Research indicates a significant correlation between lesions involving cortico-subcortical structures and the development of PSD.
