BACKGROUND OF THE TOPIC:

In a world with increasing burden of chronic disease from a growing and aging global population,pharmaceutical companies have to communicate the value of their technologies to stakeholders in
healthcare. They need to explain the cost-benefit ratio of their products, and demonstrate how the
technologies they produce, solve the unmet needs of patients.Pharma companies employ communications specialists to handle these interactions with healthcare
professionals, medical researchers, healthcare payers, regulatory agencies, patients, and the
general public. The demand for communications professionals in pharma has never been higher.STEM-trained professionals are highly valued in medical communications (MedComms) to interpret
clinical research data, and develop clear and consistent messaging to manage pharmaceutical
products throughout their entire product life cycle. MedComms is a growing area of the pharma industry, with lots of opportunities for scientists.

About Speaker:-

Dr Victoria (Vicky) Sherwood is a Scientific Writing
Team Lead at Novartis in London, UK. Prior to
transitioning to the pharmaceutical industry, Vicky
was a Principle Investigator, running a skin cancer
research lab at the University of Dundee, UK .
In her current role at Novartis, Vicky leads a team of writers who produce
medical communications that disseminate the results of clinical trials, real-
world evidence, and clinical opinions to the medical and scientific
community. Her work supports Novartis to effectively communicate
clinical research findings from their oncology pipeline and across brands.
Vicky also supports STEM professionals secure meaningful work outside

academic researchers understand the non-academic job market, identify
careers that align with their values and skills, network productively,prepare applications that get noticed, and interview effectively for private
sector jobs, with a specialty in the pharma industry.
