In a show of intergenerational solidarity, a growing number of Canadian seniors are willing to give up their Old Age Security (OAS) benefit if it means diverting the funds to those more in need - seniors living in poverty and younger Canadians suffering through a crisis of affordability.
We’re talking to boomers from across Canada about the need to reform Old Age Security. In this 11th episode we talk with Tom Grady, a retiree living in Salmon Arm, BC. He is financially secure and was recently surprised to find out that he did not incur a clawback on his Old Age Security payment. Tom thinks the income threshold should be lowered, so that funds can be diverted to those in need and to support priorities that will benefit all generations. He urges politicians to be bold in creating change.
OAS is 75 years out of date. Its 1950s design is dragging down today’s budget, and letting down seniors and young people alike. 75% of Canadians agree with our plan: By giving a little less taxpayer cash to 1 in 5 relatively well-off retirees (those with incomes above $100,000/year), we could: totally eliminate poverty for seniors, support affordable housing and childcare AND move Canada to a balanced budget. It's a win-win-win! Join us: https://action.gensqueeze.ca/fix_oas
