Salute to TC's Impact on Psychology: A tribute to Albert Ellis and our Psychology Luminaries

Описание: Teachers College has been a place for psychological exploration and cognitive studies for most of our 125 year history -- and as such has been the breeding ground for many luminaries who have shaped the modern field of psychology into what it is today. This September marks the birth centennial of one such notable: Albert Ellis. After studying at TC, Ellis went on to become the father of cognitive-behavioral therapy and founder of Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), discovering that people's beliefs strongly affected their emotional functioning. By the time he passed at age 93, Ellis had become considered by some to be more influential than Freud. This evening will be a tribute to his impact in the field of psychology, as well as an opportunity for Teachers College to recognize the other luminaries as part of our 125th anniversary celebration. Provost Tom James and TC Clinical and Counseling Psychology faculty will join his wife, Dr. Debbie Joffe Ellis, who also worked alongside Ellis for many years, in this special celebration.
