AGNI ON GROUND ZERO
Agni, the giant dragline, recently commissioned in Amlohri Open Cast Project (OCP) of NCL has reached its destination and made first dig at west section of the mine yesterday evening.
Agni had started its journey from the erection yard to the coal mine on April 2, 2019. It took more than a month to reach this machine to the fire zone (its ground zero in the mine) as it can walk only 240 meters in an hour because of the enormous size.
After addition of the Agni, NCL alone is having 23 dragline machines, more than half of the Coal India’s total dragline fleet.
With 24 cubic meter bucket capacity and 96-meter boom length, this dragline can handle about 4 million cubic meters of Overburden annually.
Draglines are the biggest Heavy Earth Moving Machine (HEMM) used to remove Overburden (OB) in open cast coal mines due to their massive volume handling capability. OB is the rock or soil lying over coal that is removed before extracting coal from the mine.
