Obituary is an American death metal band, formed in 1984 under the name Executioner in Tampa, Florida, by brothers John and Donald Tardy, when they were 17 and 15 years old, respectively. After discovering that a group with this name already existed in Boston, in 1986 the brothers decided to call their musical project Xecutioner.
