HISTORY: The Virginia and Truckee Railroad is a privately owned heritage railroad. The railroad owns and uses the service mark "Queen of the Short Lines". The V&T Railroad runs up to seven trains per day, many in steam behind locomotive #29, a 2-8-0 Consolidation, or an ex-US Army GE 80-ton diesel from Virginia City from Memorial Day until the end of October each year.

When first constructed in the 19th century, it was a commercial freight railroad (reporting mark VT) which was originally built to serve the Comstock Lode mining communities of northwestern Nevada. At its height, the railroad's route ran from Reno south to Carson City. In Carson City, the mainline split into two branches. One branch continued south to Minden, while the other branch traveled east to Virginia City. The first section from Virginia City to Carson City was constructed beginning in 1869 to haul ore, lumber and supplies for the Comstock Lode.

The railroad was abandoned in 1950 after years of declining revenue. The public Nevada Commission for the Reconstruction of the V&T Railway has rebuilt the line from Gold Hill (connection with the current V&T Railroad) to Carson City, running the first train over the line in 68 years on August 14, 2009.

The Altar Billies are a trio from Orange County California fronted by guitarist/vocalist Michael W Stand. Rounding out the group are Johnny X on upright and Chuck Cummings on Drums. The group covers many classic hits, as well as newly penned originals.

For 15 years the fellas have been featured at such venues as the Orange County Fair, Tustin Street Fair, Orange Street Fair, Fullerton Farmer’s Market, Silverado Canyon Concert Series, and of course a number of times at NAMM.

In 2014 the group released its first full-length 15-song project titled "Head'n out West." This musical venture featured not only “I’m Still Stand’n,” and “Ballad of the Big Boy,” but found its swing with songs such as “Aim’n High” and “You Can’t look up, When You’re Look’n Down.”

2017 found the fellas hitting the trail once again with their latest release: “Long, Long Road.” From 2018 through 2021 the group released a myriad of singles including:

In 2022 the group released its third full length recording project titled: “All In," and are actively recording new material. The Altar Billies are proud to carry the rockabilly torch and keep this musical heritage alive.
