Mitered joints are inherently weak unless you do something to improve their strength. Historically, woodworkers have used splines to strengthen mitered joinery and have cut them using specialty fixtures on their table saw or router table. This video demonstrates what might be an even easier approach using a simple jig that I created for the Festool Domino DF 500.
