Anyone with a Chevy Bolt (or any EV) knows that you will lose up to 50% range in the Winter, real winters like we have here in Minnesota.
The Bolts main cabin heater set at even nominal 70 degrees can use as much as 6000 watts. It fluctuates it may be running at 6000 watts, the 3,500 watts, then 5000 watts then drops to 0 watts, then 1200 watts, then 500 watts. It's all over the place and very inefficient. You lose a lot of range using the Main heater. So that's the purpose of this Video, seeing if we can manage to keep the main cabin at a comfortable temperature using a ceramic heater using less than 1000 watts thus increasing the vehicle's range (or prevent such a huge loss of range)
Keep in mind I have more testing to verify, but by installing a 1000 watt sine wave power inverter in the "engine bay" and a 400/800-watt resistive heater in the Cabin area I was able to get a City/Highway combined 3.3m/kWh on a 25 degree F day(typical would have been 2.6-2.7) those were speeds from 35-65.
In-Town at 35 mph I was able to get 4.2miles/kWh over ten miles stretch.
Update !. The 1000 watt Inverter blew an internal fuse (surged on heater startup) so I got upgraded to a 1500 Watt/3000 surge Invertor $89 and Also a New Heater 1000 watts
This Power Inverter has the fuses on the OUTSIDE instead of inside

And this is the Heater: Works Great !
