Toyota Sienna: The Supra of Vans

The Sienna minivan debuted for 1998 with a 3-liter V6 engine and front-wheel drive. The Sienna’s in its 4th generation now, with the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th generations debuting for 2003, 2011, and 2021, respectively. 

In 2025, the Sienna is hybrid-only, and the base van model starts at $39,000 in America. There’s also a $52,000 “Woodland Edition.” This is what I love about minivans: Because they’re not mainstream popular, you can get a hybrid 8-seater with all kinds of comfort features — and even green paint, if you want it — for $40,000. Try that with an SUV. 

Every 2025 Sienna has a 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine and a pair of electric motors, making a total of 245 horsepower. You can spec available AWD across the lineup if you want over the base front-wheel drive (FWD). The AWD adds a third electric motor to drive the rear wheels but doesn’t change the horsepower figure.

In this video, we’ll talk about all the things I love (and one thing I don’t love so much) about the Sienna. We’ll talk about its looks, especially compared to other minivans on the American market like the Honda Odyssey, Kia Carnival, and Chrysler Pacifica. (We’ll also talk about how it’s basically styled like a Toyota Supra minivan with a widebody kit and a vacuum cleaner inside.) We’ll talk about how the hybrid drives, do model comparisons, test the cargo space and access, try out the seats and rows, discuss the interior, and talk about starter family vehicles: cars vs. SUVs vs. vans.
