Описание: Community Service Hours generally come in 2 forms: 1) As a special condition of probation or 2) as a term of a diversionary program... and the distinction is an important one.

If your CSH’s are court ordered then oftentimes there are alternatives to completing them. Many Judges will permit you to “buy” some or even all of your CSH’s - usually at the standard rate of $10.00 / hour. But if your CSH’s are a part of a diversionary program then you must do them or you will likely be bounced out of diversion. (This is because diversion is a State Attorney owned and operated program and the Court has no authority or jurisdiction to intervene in the State’s decision to admit you, keep you or graduate you from their program.)

Either way, whomever is supervising you will provide you with a list of alternatives for your consideration. Still, and as a general rule, any bona fide charity (not your cousin Jimmy’s community food bank but a legitimate 501© charity), government, academic or religious organization or entity will usually suffice.

In Miami I make it a point to recommend the Humane Society. Yes you can go there and sweep up pet dander but you can also earn CSH’s by fostering a pet. The conversion rate in Miami is 2 CSH’s for each 24 hour period of foster care. To me, an animal lover, this is a win win scenario.
