Pan Asian Style Air Fried Lotus Stem Stir-Fry
Ingredients
Lotus stem (lotus root) – 250 g
Sweet chili sauce – to taste
Soy sauce – to taste
Vegetarian oyster sauce – to taste
Garlic – chopped into small cubes
Oil – 2 tablespoons (for air frying) + 1 tablespoon (for garlic)
Roasted sesame seeds – for garnish
Salt – not added (sauces already contain salt)
Equipment
Peeler
Knife and chopping board
Air fryer
Pan or wok
Method
Prepare the lotus stem
Peel the lotus stem thoroughly using a peeler. Wash well and cut into evenly sized slices or chunks.
Air fry the lotus stem
Toss the chopped lotus stem with 2 tablespoons of oil.
Place it in the air fryer and roast at 200°C for 20 minutes, shaking or stirring halfway for even roasting. This step helps reduce excess oil while keeping the stems crisp.
Prepare the sauce
In a small bowl, mix sweet chili sauce, soy sauce, and vegetarian oyster sauce according to your taste. Do not add salt.
Stir-fry
Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a pan.
Add the chopped garlic and sauté until lightly golden and aromatic.
Add the air-fried lotus stem to the pan and toss well with the garlic.
Add sauce and finish
Pour in the prepared sauce mixture and stir-fry for about 5 minutes, allowing the lotus stem to absorb the flavors evenly.
Serve
Transfer to a serving plate and garnish with roasted sesame seeds. Serve hot.
Notes
This recipe uses minimal oil while still delivering a crispy texture.
You can adjust the sauce quantities based on how spicy or savory you prefer it.
Best served as a starter or a side dish in a Pan-Asian meal.
