St. Anne Line (27 February): Do You Have it in You to Die for the Mass?

Описание: In 1601, a 37-year-old Catholic woman was sentenced to death for harboring priests and coordinating the Holy Mass in England.

Her name was St. Anne Line.

On the scaffold, before being hanged by the English government, she declared:

“So far am I from repenting for having so done, that I wish with all my soul that where I have entertained one, I could have entertained a thousand.”

Her crime?
Organizing a Candlemas Mass on February 2nd — the Feast of the Purification of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

At the time, it had become a crime:

To attend Mass

To be a Catholic priest

To harbor a priest

After nearly 1,000 years as a Catholic nation, England underwent not merely a “Reformation” — but a revolution. Altars were destroyed. Sacrifice was denied. The ancient faith was outlawed.

And ordinary lay Catholics paid the price.
