In its October 2026 World Economic Outlook, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) raised India’s GDP growth forecast to 7% for both the 2026–27 (FY27) and 2027–28 (FY28) financial years. This notable 60-basis-point upgrade from its previous July estimate of 6.4% positions India as the world's fastest-growing major economy, outpacing other economic powerhouses like China and the United States. The IMF attributed this upward revision to stronger-than-expected economic momentum, resilient domestic demand, and robust services activity, alongside underlying strengths like favourable demographic dynamics and ongoing structural reforms.
