Jean Wilke is a young custom knifemaker from Pretoria, South Africa. His knives are exceptionally well designed and tested. His attention to detail is clearly evident in each of his creations. He is currently working with Mastersmiths Kevin and Heather Harvey, travelling back and forth every two weeks, alternating between working at Heavin Forge and his home forge, Fire Goby Forge. It is very exciting to see a young maker with such tremendous talent.
The Tuna is a perfect general purpose field knife. From prepping kindling, cooking dinner around the camp site, to skinning and field dressing your latest hunt, this knife has you covered!
The drop point blade is 1070 carbon steel. 1070 carbon steel is tough, chip resistant, and maintains a razor sharp edge. It is an excellent steel for hard use knives. The knife is coated in a Kal-Guard coating and baked at 150C to ensure a scratch-resistant, non-reflective finish. The spine and choil are nicely rounded for comfort.
Brown pakkawood handle scales are set on the distal tapered full tang. Despite its 4.3 inch blade, this knife weighs just 2.4 ounces, making it easy to keep by your side! The contoured scales fill your hand and provide a comfortable grip with no hot spots.
To keep the knife close at hand, a Kydex sheath is included. A belt clip allows it to be attached to a belt or a Molle vest.
Excellent work throughout!
