Due to the inability to view the moon on Thursday (July 28), the Gulf States declared Saturday (July 30) the beginning of the Islamic New Year. This year, countries like the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Qatar, and Kuwait will observe Muharram on Saturday. This marks the beginning of the Hijrah year 1444.
