Today, we're going to be going over and showing you how to install the Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver here on a 2019 Volkswagen Golf. So this is what our trailer hitch looks like installed. As you can see here from the parts we can see, we're going to have a nice durable black powder-coated finish which is going to help it blend in with the vehicle and it's also going to help protect it from rust and corrosion. Now, furthermore, this trailer hitch actually has what's known as a hidden design, meaning the cross tube and everything else is going to be hidden behind the bumper here. The only thing we're going to actually be able to see is the receiver tube. Therefore, we have a very factory-like appearance.
So adding a trailer hitch to your Golf, it's going to be an excellent idea. We can obviously use the trailer hitch for towing but we can also use it for hitch-mounted bike racks if we want to hit the trails or a hitch-mounted cargo carrier if we want to free up some space inside the vehicle for those long road trips. So if we're going to be towing with our trailer hitch, keep in mind, it has a class one rating, which is going to provide us with a 2000 pound gross trailer weight rating which is the amount we can pull outward on the receiver tube. And it also has a 200 pound tongue weight rating which is going to be the downward force here on the receiver tube. Now, keep in mind, the trailer hitch is actually tested separately of the vehicle so you'll need to check your owner's manual for the vehicle's towing capacity and abide by the lower of the two rated components.
So in regards to choosing a bike rack or cargo carrier, you obviously need to make sure that it's compatible with the one and a quarter inch by one and a quarter inch receiver tube. We also need to make sure that the hitch-mounted accessory is compatible with class one rated hitches, which is what we have here. So if we take a closer look at the receiver tube, you're going to see we have a hitch pin hole here. That's going to be a half inch diameter. The hitch pin and clip are going to be sold separately.
Most bike racks and cargo carriers are going to come with their own but if you're not using it for that, you may want to go ahead and pick one of these up from us. We have plenty of options to choose from. And then on the bottom of the receiver tube, we have the welded-on loops, which will accept both these smaller S-type hooks as well as the larger Clevis style. So now we have a couple measurements for you guys. The first one I like to do for these vehicles that sit a little lower to the ground is just your ground clearance.
So the distance from the ground to the top inside edge of the receiver tube opening: 13 and three quarter inches. And then finally, we have the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the outside edge of the bumper. That one's going to be three inches and that one will be useful when you're selecting your folding accessories. That way you can make sure they don't contact the vehicle while they're in the stowed position. So in regards to installation, yes, we do have to remove was the rear bumper fascia temporarily. And I know that may seem like a challenging task but it's really not that bad at all. We could get the job done with just some minor basic tools. And we'll go ahead and walk you through this entire process now. So the step of our installation, we're actually going to be removing the bumper but it's not that hard at all, only a few steps. The first one is going to be to remove the actual tail light. So in order to remove this, we're going to come inside the hatch here. And we'll show you this in a little bit but there's a little cover we're going to peel back and then there's simply a thumb screw we undo and then we can pull the tail light straight out. So here's that cover inside here. Just simply going to peel that back. It doesn't get removed completely, then there's that thumbscrew we can turn to remove the taillight. Now there is an option to use a flathead screwdriver but ours is loose enough that we can actually just get it with our hand here. Here's the better look at that thumbscrew room moving in there. But once we get that out, we can actually just pull our taillight assembly straight out and away. Now it's kind of hard to get a grip on it but we want to make sure that we pull straight back or as much as possible. Now, if you have a little pla
