In this impassioned Sicha, the Rebbe takes a lesson from God to Moses and applies it to the life of every Jew, thus outlining the task of a Shliach.
Moses pleaded with God to save the Jewish people, but his prayers were met with rebuke: “Why are you crying out to Me? Speak to the Jewish people and let them go forward!”
God was talking to Moses, yet herein lies a lesson for every Jew. While we could occupy ourselves with Torah study and prayer, we’d be neglecting our calling to the Jewish nation.
God’s words to Moses are a lesson that the Rebbe would repeatedly stress: While prayer is essential, it must never come at the expense of taking concrete action, of helping another.
In a situation like ours, when there are Jews with no knowledge of their religion, there must be a sense of urgency. In the words of the Rebbe, “you need to pack your bags and move to a place where Torah and Mitzvos are not commonplace, to raise Jewish awareness there, teaching Mitzvos on a level that the local Jews can understand – the Alef-Beis of Judaism.”
