🧠 EO / EC EEG Scan
Simple Recording & File Setup Guide
This guide explains how to properly record and upload an Eyes Open / Eyes Closed (EO/EC) EEG scan using multiple channels (up to 19 sites).
✅ What Is an EO / EC Scan?
An EO / EC scan uses two separate EEG recordings:
Eyes Open (EO) recording
Eyes Closed (EC) recording
Both recordings are analyzed together to measure:
Alpha reactivity
Site-by-site differences
Whole-scalp patterns
👉 Each file is processed in full
🎯 When to Use EO / EC
Use this scan when you want to:
Assess alpha reactivity across the whole scalp
Analyze all EEG sites at once
Run a standard multi-channel baseline
Perform clinical or QEEG-style screening
Compare Eyes Open vs Eyes Closed states
🧠 How to Record the Scan (Step-by-Step)
1️⃣ Set Up EEG Cap (Multi-Channel)
Use a standard 10–20 montage
Anywhere from 1 to 19 channels is acceptable
Make sure both recordings use the same electrode setup
Common sites include:
FP1, FP2, F3, F4, F7, F8, FZ
C3, C4, CZ
P3, P4, PZ
O1, O2
T7, T8
2️⃣ Record Eyes Open (EO)
Eyes open
Relaxed, looking forward
No talking
Minimal movement
⏱️ Duration:
Any length (30 seconds to several minutes)
Longer recordings = more stable results
Save the file when done.
3️⃣ Record Eyes Closed (EC)
Eyes closed
Stay awake
Relaxed, no movement
⏱️ Duration:
Ideally the same length as EO
Must be a separate file
Save the file when done.
📁 File Naming (VERY IMPORTANT)
The system uses filenames to know which file is EO and which is EC.
✅ Correct File Name Format
Each file must clearly include EO or EC in the name.
Examples (All Valid)
Paired recordings:
patient_EO.edf
patient_EC.edf
With site or session info:
session1_EO.edf
session1_EC.edf
baseline_EO.edf
baseline_EC.edf
Single-site recordings (also allowed):
F3_EO.edf
F3_EC.edf
❌ Common Mistakes to Avoid
❌ baseline1.edf (no EO or EC)
❌ eyesopen.edf (not recognized)
❌ Combining EO and EC in one file
👉 EO and EC must be TWO SEPARATE FILES.
📄 File Requirements (Simple)
File type: .edf (preferred)
Number of files: exactly 2
One EO
One EC
Channels: 1–19
Duration: Any length (entire file is analyzed)
⚠️ For best results:
Use the same channels in both files
Use similar durations for EO and EC
▶️ Uploading the Files
Select Single Epoch (EC/EO) protocol
Upload both files at the same time
EO file
EC file
If prompted, confirm which file is EO and which is EC
Run the scan
That’s it.
📊 What You’ll Get Back
Your report will include:
Alpha reactivity for each site
Whole-scalp EO vs EC comparison
Site-by-site findings
Highlighted key sites (O1, O2, P3, P4, PZ)
Clear classifications:
Normal
Reduced
Blunted
Excessive
🧩 Important Notes
Each channel is analyzed independently
Reactivity is calculated only for sites present in both files
Longer recordings improve accuracy
This scan does not segment time — the entire file is used
