Supine Shoulder Flexion is a simple but effective exercise we use at Good Vibes Physio to improve shoulder mobility, restore comfortable overhead range, and build better control through the shoulder and upper back.
Doing this lying on your back (supine) helps reduce compensation from the lower back and ribs, so the movement comes from the shoulder where it should.
This makes it a great option for early-stage shoulder rehab, stiffness, or when overhead movement feels tight or awkward.
We use this exercise in physio and rehab programs to help people:
✅ Improve shoulder flexion (overhead range)
✅ Reduce shoulder and upper back stiffness
✅ Improve control of overhead movement
✅ Prepare for pressing, reaching, and lifting
How to do it:
Lie on your back with your knees bent and core gently braced.
Hold your arms straight and slowly raise them overhead toward the floor.
Keep your ribs down and avoid arching your lower back.
Return with control and repeat.
Slow movement. Ribs down. Clean range.
At Good Vibes Physio, we don’t just chase range — we build usable, controlled movement.
If reaching overhead feels stiff, pinchy, or limited, this is a great place to start — but the right plan still matters.
