Este cortometraje fue rodado en 2008 y estrenado en 2009.
Fue una locura. Rodamos en el mar. En mar abierto.
El concepto visual y dramático era combinar una película de suspense acuático a lo Tiburón de Spielberg con el cine contemplativo de James Benning. Quizás esto también fue una locura.
La idea surgió porque hay muy pocos registros de ataques a bañistas de tiburones en las costas españolas. Uno de ellos fue el de un hombre en la costa valenciana en los años noventa. Afortunadamente no fue nada grave y el hombre consiguió regresar a la playa. Hay un rumor que dice que estos ataques son más habituales de lo que parece y se ocultan porque no interesa por temas económicos, para no asustar al turismo. Pero la verdad es que los tiburones raramente se acercan a las playas mediterráneas y no formamos parte de su cádena alimentaria. Viven muy lejos, mar adentro. Así que me pregunté qué diablos hacía un hombre nadando tan lejos de la costa. De esto va realmente el cortometraje.
Los tiburones son unos animales formidables, muy poco peligrosos para la gente porque no formamos parte de su cadena alimentaria. Así que cuando se producen ataques, algunos ciertamente graves e incluso mortales, suelen ser accidentes. La realidad es que los tiburones son esenciales para el ecosistema marino y están en peligro de extinción. Aunque no tenía este motivo inicial, me gustaría pensar que este corto pueda servir para concienciar de su importancia como moradores del mar, que debemos apreciar y preservar como seres humanos.


This short film was shot in 2008 and released in 2009.
It was crazy. We shot at sea. In the open sea. And we did not figure out how hard this was going to be till we have the water in our necks.
The aesthetic and narrative concept was to combine Spielberg's aquatic thriller Jaws with James Benning's contemplative cinema. Maybe this was crazy aswell.
The idea came about because there are very few records of attacks on shark bathers off the coast of Spain. One of them was that of a man off the coast of Valencia in the 1990s. Fortunately it was nothing serious and the man managed to get back to the beach. There is a rumor that these attacks are more common than they seem and are hidden because they are not interested in economic issues, so avoid scaring off tourism. But the truth is that sharks rarely come close to Mediterranean beaches and we are not part of their food chain. They live far out to sea. So I wondered what the hell a man was swimming so far offshore. This is what the short film is really about.
Sharks are formidable animals, very little danger to people because we're not part of their food chain. So when attacks occur, some of them certainly serious and deadly, they are usually accidents. The reality is that sharks are essential to the marine ecosystem and are in danger of extinction. Although I did not have this initial motive, I would like to think that this short film can serve to raise awareness of their importance as sea dwellers, which we must care and preserve as human beings.
