By Day 5, the Lord starts shifting you from “starting strong” to “staying steady.” Because fasting isn’t just about what you give up—it’s about what you’re being prepared for. In Acts 13, Barnabas and Saul were not released into ministry until the church fasted and prayed. That tells me something: fasting is preparation for assignment.
And preparation matters because the devil does not play fair. When you say yes to God, you can expect resistance. But we don’t fast because we’re scared—we fast because we’re getting ready. We’re putting on spiritual strength. We’re sharpening discernment. We’re building stamina. We’re learning how to stand when pressure comes.
Jesus modeled this. Before He stepped fully into public ministry, He fasted. And after fasting, the tempter came (Matthew 4). But Jesus was ready—Word in His mouth, clarity in His spirit, discipline in His life. That’s what this fast is building in us: readiness.
So keep going. Don’t let this fast become just another church activity. Let it be a spiritual turning point. Because when we fast and pray, we don’t just change what we eat—we change what we can handle.
Application: Today, write this declaration: “I’m getting ready for what God has ready.” Then identify one area where you need to be stronger (focus, patience, purity, faith, discipline) and fast with that purpose in mind.
Prayer: Lord, prepare me for what You’ve called me to do. Strengthen me where I’m weak and steady me where I’m tempted. Let this fast produce power, maturity, and obedience in my life. In Jesus’ name, amen.#MorningImpact #Day5 #21DayFast #PreparedForPurpose #Acts13 #Matthew4 #Consecration #FullyCommitted #BrandonOMcAfee
