The inspiration behind the installation lies in Kintsugi, the Japanese philosophy and art of ceramic restoration.
In the philosophy of Kintsugi, cracks and chips are viewed as integral parts of the history and memory of beloved items. To revive it, elevate it to the realm of art, and restore it with gold or silver powder is the philosophy of Kintsugi. According to this philosophy, not only inanimate objects but also spiritual ones can undergo restoration.
My Kintsugi was an attempt to create an alternative artistic interpretation inspired by this philosophy, allowing clay as a living medium to co-author the work. The installation features multiple objects where clay integrates decorative elements by naturally forming cracks during the drying process. As a result, the artwork undergoes a transformation while positioned under the intentionally broken glass for a specific duration.
This experimental art object, accompanied by a ritual and accessories, narrates three simultaneous stories.
