Описание: The documentary film "The Missing Shades" was conceived, researched into, co-written & directed by Supratik Mukherji in 1997. The film was made to focus on the near-extinct style of miniature painting unique to Surpura (also spelt as Shorapore, Shorapur, Surapura, Surpur) and perhaps its only surviving artiste Sri Vijaya Hagargundgi. Vijaya specialises in this style and has evolved his own style based on the Surpura school. Vijaya's vast & in-depth knowledge of Indian art, art-history and the socio-religious context of Hinduism & Islam makes him a total legend. -- Soon after the documentary was made, the Indian Documentary Producers' Association (IDPA) accepted the film for screening. Mr Shyam Benegal was the then President of the IDPA. IDPA took interest in the history of Surpura & made it the central theme to be empanelled in their collection, for screening. "The Missing Shades" was re-edited into a historical documentary film, "And then there were None ..." by Sri S G Seetharam and Sri Subhankar Biswas. The historical documentary film focuses on the Nayaka rulers around Surpura, Shahpur (also spelt as, Shahapur), Gulbarga, Wagingera, Talwargera, Gogi and other places in the region. One important chapter on history under the Nayaka rule involved the Adil Shahi dynasty, next the mighty Mughals and finally, the British, especially around the Sepoy Mutiny in 1857-1858. -- Has the Surpura style of miniature painting survived? Are there artists interested to learn the skills from Vijaya?! How far have talented artists, art-researchers, art-historians, connoisseurs et al taken interest in the region's unique glorious place in art-history? -- Has the history of the entire region been researched into thoroughly? -- Sri Bhaskar Rao Mudbool, lawyer & farmer based in Shahpur, has been leading pioneering works since 1997, to explore the history of the Nayaka kingdom, find fact-based information, spread awareness in the community, lobby decision-makers and authorities to include the glorious chapter of the Nayakas in history curricula and build the local community by taking pride in the deeds of the Nayakas.
