The royal Carthusian monastery of Valldemossa was the refuge of Sand and Chopin's love.

It was, according to the Polish musician, "the most beautiful place in the world". Despite the short duration of his stay, Chopin left an indelible mark on the island, especially in La Cartuja de Valldemossa, where he lived between December 15, 1838 and February 11, 1839.

During his stay, Chopin completed his preludes and began writing works, which he finished later when he returned to Paris. He did this on his Pleyel piano, which the composer brought to Mallorca and had to remain on the island due to transport problems, and is the only and oldest surviving Chopin piano in the world.

Documentation confirming its authenticity is also on display in the room. Many original documents are kept in the museum. Among the hundreds of items in this museum are original lithographs of Chopin and George Sand, facsimiles of his music and correspondence related to Mallorca, original Chopin objects in Mallorca (piano keys and piano tuning tools), sculptures, medallions, first editions of works by Chopin and George Sand , related to Mallorca, original elements of the era illustrating the journey, maps, graphics, pictures ....

The French writer George Sand (pseudonym of Amanda Aurora Lucile Dupin, Baroness Dudevant) wrote about her stay in Valldemossa in her autobiographical travel diary "Winter in Majorca".
