Five weeks after the election of Robert Prevost to leader of the Catholic church, the Archdiocese of Chicago & the Chicago White Sox hosted a public mass for the American-born Pope Leo XIV at the south side's Rate Field. The event was streamed live for several hours on June 14, but ABC 7 Chicago wrapped it all up into a 1-hour special that aired a week later. The program was hosted by lead anchor Rob Elgas & investigative reporter Liz Nagy (who reported from the Vatican for the entire conclave), with a report from Stephanie Wade. Between highlights of the mass and public speakers, the special featured interviews with notable attendees, including Cardinal Blase Cupich, who presided over the mass.
