Kalmia latifolia, our native mountain laurel is loved by most gardeners and many bees, for its lovely blossoms. They are delicate white or pink petticoat-like bells. Finicky is the best description for its culture. They prefer acid, well-drained soil and do not adjust well to clay soils. As a substitute you can plant the shrub high in mound of loose soil. If you have a great humus soil mix and partial sun this plant is a must for your border.
