Can fish escape a minnow trap?! I tested the Gee's style minnow traps with 7/8" to 1" and 1 1/2" hole openings to see if shiners could find their way out of the trap. I put a gopro in the fish trap to show you what happened inside!
If you want to catch small/medium minnows I suggest you use the trap as it is sold (7/8" - 1" openings) because they have a harder time escaping. If you want large/extra large minnows, open the holes up to whatever size your state allows. Just remember that expanding the hole size on the traps gives the smalls/mediums a much easier chance to escape while allowing in and retaining the larger baits.
Get outside and give trapping minnows a try!
