Because We Can 3 – A Scottish Railtour Adventure
The third ‘Because We Can’ charity railtour, organized by BLS, SPRS, LSL, and GBRf, once again featured Class 37 traction for an incredible journey through Scotland.
Kicking off on Friday, March 21st, the tour began at the Bo’ness and Kinneil Railway, making its way over the iconic Forth Bridge en route to its first stop at Leven. After capturing various shots in the area, the train continued to Perth for a lunchtime break before heading north toward Aviemore and the Strathspey Railway. Here, resident loco 37674 joined the rear of the train, later taking the lead on a spirited run from Broomhill, filling the air with that unmistakable Class 37 sound! Following some shunting, back at Aviemore the train pressed on for an overnight stop in Inverness.
Day two was an early start for passengers and crew at with a departure from Inverness 05:20, but I opted for a more leisurely wake-up at 06:30—just in time to catch the train after its various layovers and diversions at Kirkton. The journey continued to Georgemas Junction, followed by a scenic run to Thurso, and a lunch break in Wick. The afternoon train faced some delays, making for a patient wait, but it was all part of the adventure.
With over 1,500 miles of travel, stunning locations, and plenty of thrash, this was a railtour well worth the journey from the West Mids!
