Pool-in-Wharfedale weir is about 6ft high and it is the 7th weir from the sea. It doesn't have a fish pass and the fish will have difficulty swimming over the weir.
There is a hydro turbine located on the old mill goit. Nowadays when there is a new hydro turbine built they have to build a fish pass as well. This hydro was built in the days before they had to build a fish pass.
Hydro power is supposed to be good for the environment but in this case it is bad because the fish can't migrate past the weir to their spawning grounds and the River Wharfe has a lot less fish when compared to other rivers.
