0.36 Explanation of Active Combustion controls

Our new synergy combination and system boiler ranges are equipped with the latest Active Combustion controls to ensure optimum efficiency and minimise emissions when operating.
It's termed GAC which represents Gas Air Calibration; the boiler software and hardware continually monitors and adjusts fuel/combustion air flow. This needs to be calibrated at the first firing following installation and is a simple procedure taking only a few minutes.

Gas Air Calibration will also need to be carried out if the gas valve, ionisation probe, fan or control board are changed.

1.48 How to Commission Synergy Boiler

The synergy should never be fired without the case front and sides in place and secure.
When the system is filled with water and the boiler powered ON there will be a four-minute purge period during which the boiler will not fire but the pump will operate to clear air from the heat exchanger, please let this complete the full four minutes. (Last take)

Once completed follow this procedure, press any button to wake the display, now select hot water mode with button 1.
Open a hot tap.

Wait until the boiler fires, a flame icon will appear on the display.

Press and hold button for 3 for 2-3 seconds until P1 appears in the display then release the button.
Now press 3 again for a further 2-3 seconds until a password request (PWD) appears in the display.
Use C and D to select the password (18).
Confirm with A.
Use C or D to select P2 then press A to enter. P2 is the combustion parameter menu.

Use C or D to select parameter 206 (the Gas Air Calibration parameter).
Press A enter, an 0 will be displayed.
Use D to select 1 then press A to confirm.
Gas Air Calibration will start.


The boiler will operate at and display a selection of fan speeds to sample combustion at each speed building a profile of how the boiler is operating with the flue system it is fitted to.
This will last a minute or two. Once the procedure is complete END will show in the display or if the procedure was unsuccessful RTY (RETRY) which requires the procedure to be repeated.
