RECAP: Achiuwa, DeRozan, Westbrook combine for 66 points
Sacramento Kings 124, Memphis 113
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Thanks to a powerful start of the game by Precious Achiuwa, the Sacramento Kings were able to put an end to a 16-game losing streak with a 123-114 road win over the Memphis Grizzlies.
Russell Westbrook led with 25 points, 7 assists, and 2 rebounds, but it was Achiuwa’s 22 points, 12 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 block in 33 minutes for the Kings (13-46, 4-26 on the road). The Nigerian made 10 of 15 shots (66.6%) from the field and pulled down 7 offensive rebounds.
DeMar DeRozan and Daequon Plowden had 19 points each, and rookie Nique Clifford produced an all-around effort with 12 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, and 6 steals in 28 minutes off the bench.
The purple laser at Golden 1 Center lit up for the 13th time out of 59 games this season. Sacramento went 38 days without a victory. The Kings also put the brakes on the Grizzlies, who won the last 3 games against them.
Reserve Javon Small had 21 points, 9 assists, and 3 rebounds for the nearly half-empty roster of the Grizzlies (21-35, 11-16 at home). Memphis was without the services of Ja Morant (Elbow UCL sprain), Zach Edey (Ankle), Santi Aldama (Knee), Brandon Clarke (Calf), Cedric Coward (Knee), and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope (Finger, out for the season).
Olivier-Maxence Prosper had 17 points and 3 rebounds, and GG Jackson added 16 points and 6 rebounds for the Grizzlies.
The Kings led by 9 points in the 1st half, but could only get by with a 63-61 advantage at the break. Achiuwa made 7 of 9 shots from the field for 14 points and pulled down 10 boards in the 1st half. Russell Westbrook had 11 points.
Prosper had 13 points for the Grizzlies. Three players had 8 points apiece. Pippen had 5 steals in the first half for Memphis, while Murray collected 4 for the Kings. Both teams combined for 37 dimes in the first half.
The Kings never relinquished the lead in the 2nd half, despite allowing the Grizzlies to cut the lead by 2 points in the 3rd frame. Westbrook made a triple midway through the final quarter to put the Kings up 111-104.
Recently signed as a 10-day service player, Killian Hayes got some tick in his first game with the Kings. He was 0 for 4 from the floor with 4 assists in 11 minutes.
The longest losing streak in the Kings’ 78 years in the NBA is behind them, but losing, especially as a representative of Sacramento, is a well-planted stain.
At the conclusion of the game with Memphis, the Kings franchise has an all-time record of 2,812 –3,388 (.456 W-L%) over 78 seasons from 1948–49 to 2025–26, according to Basketball-Reference.com. These statistics include Rochester, Cincinnati, and Kansas City eras.
