Over 400 ancient trees, some over 150 to 200 years old, were cut and removed as part of the Punjab government’s plan to construct a parking plaza on Mall Road, right in the heart of Lahore.

Civil society groups stepped in at the last moment, requesting the government to hand over the trees so they could shift them to another part of the garden instead of letting them be destroyed.

But a bigger question remains:

Can centuries-old trees really survive after being uprooted and replanted elsewhere?
