Q: Why don't you invoke the inventory menu during certain forced waits for some segments in The Spirit Engine 1?
A: On some segments, invoking the inventory menu will softlock the game. Each level/segment (frame in Multimedia Fusion) is programmed slightly differently due to MMF's lack of code inheritance.
Places I can invoke the inventory menu to skip waiting: The Praire Trail (if not too early), The Misty Marshes, Arachnid's Grove, Hamlet, Blue Sapphire Bay, The Veroonai Enclave, The Arcane Library
Places where invoking will cause a softlock: Hailey's Glen, The Icy Ridge, Giant's Top, The Broken Bridge (pt 2), The Republican Government Building
Places that have no effect and/or cannot be invoked: Homestead (but I do it anyway for swag), Grundlekrunk's Lair, Serinet Bastion, Downtown Heavena, Saline, Clarke's Tower Lobby, Elevator 16
Q: Why don't you save in TSE1?
A: Each save routine wastes ~7 seconds and the WR pace has no saving, effectively turning TSE1 into a roguelike.
Q: What is that exclamation mark effect that's happening on Peter during the lategame?
A: That is the special effect of the Ivory Talisman of Life Transference. It's an incredibly volatile item, which either does a fixed amount of absolute (not ethereal) damage to a random enemy while healing the wielder, or the other way round. The fixed amount is also based on your party level, so under the effects of Party Bless, it could either save seconds, or cost an entire run (like it almost did with the final boss during the 2nd phase). It should also be noted that the special effect will not target the Frontal Unit of the MDMZ.
Example case: Zepher's Party Bless @ a skill level of 30 and a Party Level of 46 makes his PBlesses add 54 to the PLevel, making our total PLevel 100 under the effects of PBless.
Bad effect: Subtracts (PARTY_LEVEL)/2 from wielder's health, adds (PARTY_LEVEL)*3 to a random enemy's health
Good effect: Heals wielder's health by (PARTY_LEVEL)/2, subtracts (PARTY_LEVEL)*7 from a random enemy's health
So, that would mean...
Bad effect: Peter loses 23 (46/2) health and a random enemy gains 69 (46*3) health under normal circumstances, and under the influence of PBless, Peter loses 50 (100/2) health and a random enemy gains 300 (100*3) health.
Good effect: Peter gains 23 (46/2) health and a random enemy loses 322 (46*7) health under normal circumstances, and under the influence of PBless, Peter gains 50 (100/2) and a random enemy loses 700 (100*7) health.
