India is working on a powerful new generation of indigenous missiles, air-defence systems and long-range weapons that could significantly strengthen its military capabilities over the coming years.

Key programmes include Astra IR, Astra Mk-II and Astra Mk-III for advanced air-to-air combat; Rudram-II and Rudram-III for long-range strike and anti-radiation roles; and future strategic systems such as Agni-VI.

India is also developing and expanding several advanced air-defence programmes, including Project Kusha, QRSAM, Akash-NG, ERSAM and other extended-range surface-to-air missile systems.

Other major programmes include BrahMos-NG, HELINA, Dhruvastra and SANT, along with the Gaurav and Gautam long-range glide bomb programmes. The Pinaka family is also being expanded with longer-range variants, while HSTDV-related technologies are expected to support India's future hypersonic weapon development.

Long-range strike programmes such as LRASM concepts, Nirbhay-derived cruise missile developments, Pralay and Shaurya further highlight India's growing focus on indigenous stand-off and strategic strike capabilities.

Many of these systems are currently at different stages of development, testing or induction, and several could become operational or see wider deployment over the next five to seven years, significantly expanding India's air-to-air, air-defence, hypersonic and long-range strike capabilities.
