Ross Sea in Antarctica declared as the world’s largest marine reserve

Описание: Antarctic sea becomes world’s largest marine protected area, delegates from 24 countries and the European Union have agreed that the Ross Rea in Antarctica will become the world’s marine protected area. Environmentalists have welcomed the move to protect what’s said to be the Earth’s most pristine marine ecosystem.

The Ross Sea makes up only 2 percent of the geographic are of the Southern Ocean, but hosts many wonderful species. These weird and wonderful species will now be protected after four years of negotiations, led by New Zealand and the US

The region is important to the rest of the planet as the upwelling of nutrients from the deep waters are carried on currents around the world.
