Video Description with Transcript: Deaf Weight Wise (DWW) Testimonials in ASL
The video opens with Lori, a white woman with wavy, light brown hair. Lori is wearing a greenish, tan t- shirt. Lori is standing in front of a light sage color background.
Lori (in ASL) “National Center for Deaf Health Research (NCDHR) has been sharing information about Deaf Weight Wise (DWW) as part of our implementation project with our community partners in Rochester, Buffalo and Syracuse. Through our interactions with the community, there have been questions about the experience of those who have already completed DWW previously as participants. We have short clips from previous DWW participants to share with you.”
Karen, a white woman with curly, short dark brown hair. Karen is wearing a purple t-shirt. Karen is sitting in front of wooden, striped background.
Karen (in ASL) “I learned so much! I learned how to count my calories, I learned how to exercise, and how to balance my food and my life. I lost about 30 pounds and kept off 25 pounds.”
Earl, a black man with glasses. Earl is wearing a pink t-shirt. Earl is standing in front of a greenish-tan wall between two framed pictures with circle and squares in different colors.
Earl (in ASL) “Knowledge is power. I think that many Deaf adults all over the county have limited access to nutritional information. As for me, when chatting with my primary care doctor, I have specific medical needs. My doctor gave me one piece of paper on nutrition that was it. Plus, they said if I needed more help to see a nutrition specialist. DWW is exactly what I needed.”
Hillary, a white woman with curly, long brown hair with glasses. Hillary is wearing a green long-sleeved shirt. Hillary is sitting on a tan couch in front of a corner wall with brown bars.
Hillary (in ASL) “Before joining DWW, I was very athletic and always kept up with eating healthy and working out. I saw this group and thought, why not give it a try? I qualified for this research so I joined to see what I could learn. I was curious. At that time, I was struggling with my weight a bit. And wow, I learned a lot. Much more than I was expecting!”
The video cued back to Lori saying in ASL ”If you would like to learn more about Deaf Weight Wise (DWW), please contact the NCDHR Team.”
Closing side: Contact information in black text on a green background: [email protected] and VP (585) 228-2299. At the bottom is the NCDHR Logo in blue, green and orange labeled “Buffalo,” “Rochester,” and “Syracuse” on a white background.
