Forged in Steam is a photographic exhibition exploring the human stories behind Britain’s steam heritage. Through portraits, landscapes, and moving images, the work focuses on the crews, engineers, and volunteers whose skills, labour, and dedication keep steam railways alive today.
Rather than nostalgia alone, the exhibition looks at steam as a living practice — shaped by teamwork, tradition, and hard physical work. Faces marked by coal dust, engines cutting through the landscape, and moments behind the scenes reveal a heritage that is still being forged in the present, connecting past knowledge with a sustainable future.
