Amador Cellars so accurately embodies the kind of Winery I love spending a day exploring. A small, family owned and operated Artisan winery. This is the very frontier of California winemaking. Each bottle nurtured and crafted by the very folks pouring you a taste. If you're lucky (as I was), Linda Long or Mom as I call her, will be serving your tasting herself.
Winemakers are some of the most undersated and unassuming people you can meet. They carry around with them a lifetime's worth of knowledge and experience, able to pull from it at any moment. They possess the unique ability to apply very deep technical schientific knowledge and creativity as they rise to the occasion and challenge each vintage brings.
Michael Long is a young winemaker with a very mature style. He has many more vintages ahead and I very much look forward to exploring all of them. I enjoyed all the wines and thought they were well built, layered, nuanced and very much representative of the region. My favorite on the tasting menu was the Grenache Noir. My favorite from the library was the Aglianico. The most interesting was his unconventional take on the Touriga. And that unfinished sparkling wine is already incredible.
