‘Un Aasai Mugam’ is an independent and crowdfunded feature fılm shot over 90 days - in the live and buzzing public spaces of Chennai and its suburbs.
Although the fılm is based on a fıctional love story, it attempts to realistically capture the lives of people who commute everyday through Chennai' s iconic local trains. In order to achieve a naturalistic tone, the fılm was shot at real locations during some of their very busy hours. This attempt was challenging and the crew had almost zero control over managing the crowd or their movement. And had to rely on natural light sources available at these locations.

While the universe was kind enough to grant the fılm with good moments, it took the crew painstaking days and sometimes, even months to execute the desired shots.

CROWDFUNDING

The fılm's shooting began in March 2020, immediately after the fırst round of crowdfunding process was over. However, the production came to an unfortunate standstill with the onset of the Covid- 19 pandemic. Since the fılm's narrative was based on real and crowded locations, the crew had to wait for almost two years to restart the production process. A second round of crowdfunding was conducted in May 2022 and shooting commenced again in September 2022.

After almost four years, the fılm was showcased exclusively for the crowd funders and creators in a special premiere show at LV Prasad on June 1st, 2024 and received positive a response from the limited audience.
