Here is a clear, safe, and easy-to-follow guide for replacing the front brake pads on a 2014 Nissan Altima (covers both 2.5L and 3.5L models).
Replacing the front brake pads on a 2014 Altima is straightforward if you’re comfortable with basic brake work. The front brakes use a standard sliding caliper design.
Tools Needed:
New front brake pads
Jack and jack stands (or a lift)
Lug wrench (21 mm)
Ratchet with 14 mm socket (caliper bolts)
C-clamp or disc brake piston compressor
Shop rags
Flat screwdriver (optional, for prying)
Gloves & safety glasses (optional)
Instructions:
Park on a flat, level surface.
Engage the parking brake.
Jack up the front of the vehicle and support it securely with jack stands.
Remove both front wheels.
The caliper sits over the rotor and holds the brake pads in place.
You will be removing the caliper slide bolts (14 mm).
Slide both the inner and outer pads out of the bracket.
Remove and inspect the pad hardware clips.
Use a C-clamp or piston compressor with the old pad placed against the piston surface.
Slowly compress the piston until it is fully seated inside the caliper.
(This creates space for the new, thicker pads.)
Check the brake fluid reservoir—fluid may rise when the piston is compressed.
Slide the new pads into position.
Put the Caliper back in original position.
Reinstall the 14 mm caliper bolts and tighten securely.
Put the wheel back on.
Hand-tighten the lug nuts.
Lower the vehicle to the ground.
Fully tighten lug nuts in a star pattern.
Before driving, pump the brake pedal several times until it becomes firm.
This seats the pads against the rotors.
