In 2006, Italian mother Antonia Raco was diagnosed with ALS, a progressive and fatal disease. Hoping for spiritual solace, she journeyed to the Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes in 2009. There she heard a gentle voice saying “Don’t be afraid” as she was immersed in the baths. Weeks later, still in her wheelchair, she heard the voice again at home—this time urging her to tell her husband. When she called out, she stood up unaided for the first time in years.
For sixteen years, the Church conducted a rigorous medical and canonical investigation. Experts confirmed that her ALS had no cure and that her recovery was complete and lasting. In April 2025, her healing was officially recognized as the 72nd miracle of Lourdes. Today, Antonia, wearing the white veil of the Hospitallers of Lourdes, helps other pilgrims and reminds them to trust in God’s love. Her journey is a powerful testament that faith opens our eyes to God’s work in the world.
