Can ceramics or PCD tool replace carbide in cutting tools?

Ceramics can be used in place of carbide for certain applications. It is often the best solution for dry cutting conditions and high spindle speeds. Not every machining center has the necessary spindle speed, nor the rigidity to handle such tools.
Automakers and aerospace industries are moving towards composites. Cutting tool manufacturers can expect increased demand for PCD, that is Poly Crystalline Diamond tools. PCD tools will continue to replace solid carbide in certain applications, especially in non-ferrous and composite cutting.
Though there are more chances of replacing the carbide with ceramics or PCD, still carbide will be required for specific applications.
