Cobdogla Irrigation and Steam Museum operates two steam road vehicles during their open days, the Fowler B6 Crane Engine and Z7 Plowing Steam Engine. The B6 was giving rides on this day, heading up the demonstration track and then once reaching the end, being pulled backwards by the Z7's rope that the B6 initially brought out.
The B6 is a single cylinder steam engine (note the governer) with a boiler pressure of 140lb. The two cylinder Z7 has a boiler pressure of 180lb. Both of them have 36 boiler tubes and are equipped with longbox boilers to suit burning wood.
In service, these steam engines were used in pairs to drag plows across fields, replacing the use of horses. The B6 is equipped with a crane that can also be used to move around objects and can also pull tree stumps out of the ground.
