Описание: Set against the backdrop of Harlem New York and a high society neighborhood in Brooklyn Heights New York in the 1940s, this story follows Evelyn, a young African American woman who dreams of meeting her sister- Clara who was separated from her at birth and adopted by a white woman in Brooklyn Heights. Naïve but hopeful, she believes charm and grace will secure her a place at the table. But her illusions shatter when Clara — polished, privileged, and engaged to the wealthy Thomas Whittmore — humiliates her at a luncheon, (unbeknownst her knowing she’s her sister) reminding her of the cruel boundaries of race and class.

Wounded but not broken, Evelyn returns home to Harlem, her shame turning into fury. She confides in her friend Margaret, who has always warned her about Clara’s true nature. Meanwhile, Clara, desperate to protect her own secret past, moves quickly to silence Evelyn with a chilling phone call. But Evelyn has made up her mind: she will expose Clara’s hidden truth to the world.

What began as a longing for belonging spirals into a dangerous game of pride, revenge, and survival — where the price of keeping secrets could destroy them both.
