The deliberation is aimed to design a helical spring based on a given set of data.
In this video lecture the numerical on design of helical spring are solved. The values of coil diameter, wire diameter and no. of active coils of a spring are calculated. To design a helical spring based on a given set of data is also explained. Springs are designed to store energy, measure a force, or absorb shocks and vibrations. The popular types of mechanical springs are helical compression spring, helical extension spring, helical torsion spring, and multileaf spring. There are three criterions in design of springs which is sufficient strength to withstand external load, desired load deflection characteristic and sufficient buckling strength.
